Let’s start with the obvious question

What is your favourite book? I think it is probably a matter of public record that I am just a little bit obsessed with Alice in Wonderland so that has to be high on the list – although, oddly, I tend not to read the actual text so much any more – but other than that my favourites change over time.  Recent contenders for the top spot (and, as they say on Strictly, in no particular order) are The Other Hand, by Chris Cleave,  Nick Harkaway’s Gone-Away World and the chilling Dancing Jax by Robin Jarvis. And then, of course, the classics – Jane Austen, the Brontes, Tolkien……….

The big question is am I in the best or the worst job in the world for a book addict?

  1. “Of all time” is a really impossible question. If I was to shortlist the candidates, it would include HHGG, Clarke’s ‘Songs of Distant Earth’, Three Men In A Boat, The Road, and Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy.
